Looks like a fairly spartan and straighforward rhythm game, but that soundtrack is fantastic: Chvrches, Metric, Tegan and Sara, Purity Ring. Really good stuff.

This was kinda my question too. It looked like even if you hit an alien on every note you'd still end up getting hit.

I love that the characters are modeled after the actual musicians. This is so awesome.

Fucked Up is still a thing

I've seen Fucked Up and the singer stripped off basically midway through the first song.

I did not expect to see July Talk in a video game today.

Saw them live and they're good. The dude's voice is not something you'd expect to hear when you look at him.

I've played this for a couple hours on PC and, having gone through a fair amount of songs on Hard, I didn't encounter any where it felt like you'd get hit no matter what. Also, I don't know how Alex feels about the controller support, but my DS3 was real spotty. Maybe my reaction time was just bad but I had a way more success using the mouse.

Love the art style and it's great they've modeled the actual artists but... I've literally never heard of any of these bands. I guess they havent really made it big outside of the US or something? Oo

So it's Chvrches who sing that song. Was that from the Game Awards? Remember it from somewhere.

Yeah it seems kind of unfair that aliens don't move on beat but the player can only attack on beat.

they're defo not top 40, but a big chunk of the lineup (chvrches, purity ring, health) played at this year's or previous coachellas.

In Canada when a kickstarter succeeds it doesn't trigger venture capital, that's just when the provincial artist grants start rolling in (mostly kidding but probably not?). Like as soon as I saw Cadence Weapon (who is an awesome Edmonton artist btw) I knew this game was Canadian as hell so I checked out their website. Sure enough at the bottom there are like three Canadian gov't stamps down at the bottom of the page.

How big is the soundtrack in this game, like: They've got Lights, that's cool, but is it just one Lights song, or several?

I think the only artists in this game I'm super into are Tegan and Sara and Lights. I'm sure I might discover some enjoyable music in here too but it seems unfortunate to me if It's one song each from the artists who are, to me, the draw

@ulong: pretty sure it's two songs per artist, so there should be another Lights song in there

It's kind of strange how hard it is to find a complete tracklist for this game when I google.

Weird to see a rhythm game with seemingly no combo mechanic. It could probably use one, because the basic mechanics look a little barebones

only band i recognize is HEALTH, because they did the soundtrack to Max Payne 3....

I am soooooo happy that Purity Ring is in the lineup! Such an amazing band. I only heard about them in the past week but they deserve more recognition!

Rhythm game with a wicked soundtrack? Under $10? Sounds good so far. Unfortunately the mechanics are maybe too simplistic for the PC release and locking the attacks to quarter notes doesn't allow for any expression. Seems like the kind of thing that came about because the game also had to ship on mobile.

Oh well, time to load these songs into Audiosurf 2.

Is it just me, or does the lead singer of F*cked Up have a Giant Bomb tattoo on his chest?

@manbot47: I've noticed that Steam reviews have a tendency to go severely negative on games that were clearly designed with mobile platforms in mind.

I don't know any of these bands but this game seems like a super solid rhythm game. Especially if you want to play a rhythm game and have already gotten rid of all your plastic instruments.

Jeez, the reviews on Steam are B A D. As others have said below (or above...) Steam users always seem to hate on mobile ports (which most let's be honest, are horrible) but this one alot of the comments are that the game is really not fun. Haven't watched the QL yet, but it kinda looks OK?

FYI this was developed in Toronto and hence the majority of bands in this are from that scene.
