Pretty sure Alex used to coordinate most of those guest lists. Given the number of contacts he has throughout this corner of the entertainment business and the amount of effort that seemed to go in to that process, I'm not surprised that no one has been able to carry that tradition on.

@borgmaster: I agree that standard controls are objectively bad for a light gun shooter. But Virtua Cop came with a light gun accessory, so it was a non-issue. Obviously, you haven't gotten that experience given the manner in which you are revisiting these games, but those games were still a showpiece on the home console at the time.

You are definitely missing something with Virtua Cop by not playing it with a light gun. Problematic themes aside, Virtua Cop was a very good light gun game. Being able to target different body parts and have the models act appropriately was novel and engaging. Yes, it was short, being an arcade port, but like any arcade game, the point was score chasing. There is admittedly little there for a modern player approaching it for the first time, but for someone that frequented arcades at the time, Virtua Cop really was a triumph of a port.

I'm also a tentative emo fan, and I agree with the notion that this album didn't really add anything to the genre. The timing of it seems particularly strange as well. Almost Here by The Acadamy Is... came out in 2008, which was in turn a response to albums like A Beautiful Lie from 30 Seconds to Mars (2005) and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by MCR (2004). The Greatest Generation was released a full five years after The Acadamy Is..., but feels like it should have been released alongside it. I feel like Emo was nothing more than a punchline at this point. All that said, this isn't a bad album. It is totally palatable emo/pop-punk/whatever else you want to classify it as. It just didn't have anything that really made it stand out to me.

The first half is pretty decent modern blues-influenced rock. Nothing revolutionary, but solid. The second half got into folk rock ballads ala The Lumineers or any of hundreds of other bands from the last two decades, which are generally not my thing. I do appreciate the distinct A side/B side model (Bowie famously did this with Low), but I just didn't like the B side here.

There was a line in "Waterworld" (My alarm clock tellin me to suck his dick) that made me laugh. Otherwise, this album did absolutely nothing for me. Don't do drugs, kids.

I know that this is essentially the opposite of jazz, but maybe there is a horseshoe effect in music as well. This is some cool guitar music to chill by. I'd be lying if I told you I could pick out one song over another, but it was all very enjoyable. (Actually, howl does have a bit of a harsher vibe to it at times) If the rest of Covet's music is similar, I'd be very interested in checking it out as well.

@inspectorfowler: I don't know about that. It's hard to be a prima donna when you have 12 career points and rarely drive above your car's potential. There were also some rumblings that his entourage was a bit of an issue.

I think that is just Haas smokescreening a bit to try and get people on their side about dropping Mick. The guy was absolutely loved by his F2 team, and the feeling seemed mutual.

Will probably (hopefully?) end up with Merc as a reserve, but I wouldn't mind seeing him pop over to Formula E for a season. Even though he didn't have much success with Haas, he is an accomplished racer in other disciplines. It was shocking comparing Mick's resume to Piettro Fittipaldi (current Haas reserve driver). The best Piettro has finished was 5th in F3 Asia, and the rest was a bunch of double digit finishes in other series including a couple 20+ in Indycar.

Got back around to this one today. I think that if I listen to any album with the purpose of trying to appreciate it, I will generally enjoy it to some degree. Never listened to any Denzel Curry before, and I don't listen to much hip-hop in general. This seemed like a well made album. There weren't any tracks that I thought were particularly catchy, but I did enjoy Super Saiyan Superman the most, I think. I appreciated Sirens also, though I wouldn't say I enjoyed it per say. Probably not something I would revisit or seek out, but I could tell that it was high quality.
