Overview
Mr. Jong is a block-pushing action-puzzle game developed and released by Kiwako for arcades in Japan on 1983.
The game combines block-pushing maze games like Pengo with the traditional tile game of mahjong. As the titular Mr. Jong, players must form complete mahjong hands by pushing mahjong tile blocks into a hole while avoiding enemies roaming the screen (which can be crushed by pushed tiles). Players are scored based on the yaku values from the Japanese variant of mahjong, and can discard tiles from their hand at any time.
Assets from the game were later used for the game's 2017 spiritual successor Action Mahjong.
