Final Fantasy XV - A Tale Of Light And Darkness 5

This is a good looking game with good looking boys <3When I started playing Final Fantasy XV I could not help but think of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It had stunning art and was a blast to play but it felt quite unlike its predecessors. Once the credits rolled, however, I could not have been more right. Final Fantasy XV is a beautiful, ambitious project tacked onto an ugly, lazy Final Fantasy wannabe and I could not be more torn over the end result. In the world of Final Fantasy XV...

    Best When Mundane 0

"Hey Noct, check this out," Gladiolus says. An icon appears in the game world. I slowly walk over and inspect it. It's a poster advertising a fake, in-universe brand of root beer. "I could go for one of those right now.""So buy one, then," Noctis, the player character, replies."Hell yeah I will!" Gladiolus barks back. "Later, though. We've got stuff to do."This is the end of the conversation. As far as I can tell, it's impossible to buy root beer in Final Fantasy XV. At no point does Gladiolous ...

    Curing Final Fantasy disease 2

Final Fantasy is my favorite videogame franchise. I think it is important to contextualize my following arguments with that premise, because, not only my past experiences with this series molded my journey through Final Fantasy XV, but also because nostalgia can be a powerful bias. For example, last year, I ended Metal Gear Solid V with feelings of anger, frustration and sadness due to nostalgia. Metal Gear Solid is my second favorite videogame franchise, and seeing how Phantom Pain was so poorl...

While surely not final, this is one disappointing fantasy 1

The wait doesn't matter. I have to get this out of the way, because there's always someone who will say "I waited X amount of time for THIS?" the same way there's always someone who will complain "I paid X amount of dollars for THIS?" when they want to tread the incredibly murky and subjective waters of price versus length or quality. The fact of the matter is the game would be just as amazing or disappointing at the end of the day if it had come out five years ago as it is having finally releas...

Final Fantasty XV tries a lot of new things for the franchise yet the result feels rather average 1

Over the years the Final Fantasy series has been either hot or cold for me depending on what Square Enix decides to do that year. With this release, they decided to go with something a bit more action based which does fit closer to the style of game I tend to like better. Yet does it go far enough in that direction to make it feel like a fun game to play? By the time I’ve finished writing this review we shall know that answer. So let's get started with a quick synopsis of the plot.I did g...

A game with a lot of beautiful art and interesting ideas, all hobbled together into a complete mess 0

Final Fantasy XV is a game of severe contrasts, lackluster combat and poor narrative pacing. The game features an open world and yet also features a staggering long set of linear corridors. The game features a diverse and large set of interesting characters, but you barely get a chance to learn about them. The game also features action combat that can get remarkably complicated, but the game never challenges players. The game boots up each time by boldly claiming to be a “Final Fantasy for...

    What a mess 0

This game is a real mess, I’m not a FF or jrpg fanboy but I’ve played over half the games in the series and enjoyed all of them up to now.The best way I can put this is: you know how everyone complained about how long it took FF13 to get going; that is all this game is just meaningless busy work waiting for the game to get going and then out of nowhere it just ends. It's a real shame because I can see the ambition here but it just feels like they focused far too much on the open worl...

Final Fantasy XV Episode Ignis is one of the many different DLC add-ons for Final Fantasy XV. It covers the events during Chapter 9 of the base game from the character Ignis point of view.Ignis was our personal favourite character in the game so we where quite looking forward to this one and was the main reason we even decided to purchase a Season Pass. Now getting on with the content within the DLC, we where quite nicely surprised at how fun Ignis's combat abilities are, as a Dagger user he has ...

    A Rewarding Series Departure 0

Final Fantasy XV is the latest entry in the extremely long running Final Fantasy franchise, and a game that many fans of the franchise have been waiting for for years. In fact, the game was originally announced over ten years ago as Final Fantasy Versus XIII. The game has developed and changed a lot since then, and has spun off into its entirely own entry in the storied franchise. Every adventure starts from humble beginningsThe game is presented from the beginning as being a game that is for bo...

It's Alive! For Better or Worse, It's Alive! 0

Unfortunately, I was more engaged by this game when thinking about its troubled development backstory than I was when actually fighting its battles and living in its world. I can't un-know that this game suffered many delays and was passed through multiple directors' hands and changed titles more than once and, frankly, that was often all I could think about while playing. It felt like a true Frankenstein's monster, the game seems to be several different titles stitched together in odd places, s...

Reviews about videogames help me focus my thoughts about things having nothing to do with videogames. Since even the most read of reviews receives nary a comment it is safe to deposit my thoughts on everything here in diary form . You should find correlations throughout life with life. The amount of free-time that i have after becoming underemployed has been staggering, but i still do not have enough time.Today is the day after cyberpunk 2077 announced their 3rd delay. I promptly went down to my...
