The jump to the third dimension is always a risky move for a traditionally 2D series. Obviously, the addition of another dimension will drastically change how a series operates, sometimes changing it entirely. That being said, having no rumble on the Classic Controller will throw you off a bit if you're used to the original. But still, everything that was great about the original title lives on in the Wii Shop version.
